About Doctoral Program

Ph.D. is one of the prestigious programs of Manav Rachna International Institute of Research & Studies, governed by the Council for Doctoral Program (CDP). CDP’s prime function is to facilitate, monitor, and assure the quality of research work.

Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Deemed-to-be-University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, is a NAAC accredited ‘A++’ Grade Institution, and has been awarded QS 5-Star for Teaching, Employability, Academic Development, Facilities, Social Responsibility, and Inclusiveness, and QS 4-Star rating for the Program Strength of its Computer Science and Engineering degree courses.

  • A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s (Hons. With Research) degree (excluding B.Tech., BPT, B-Design and BDS degree) programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. (Awarded till December 2023) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • For School of Leadership and Management/ School of Commerce: Master's Degree or any other degree recognized equivalent thereto in Business Administration or Economics or Commerce or in allied subjects or Two years Post Graduate Diploma in Management recognized as equivalent to MBA by AICTE/AIU or Graduates having passed their final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India/CS/ICWA with 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). The provision needs to be approved and updated as per the latest UGC guidelines.
Admission to Manav Rachna Dental College/ School of Dental Sciences
  • Candidates who have completed the Master's degree in Dental Sciences or an equivalent degree from a DCI recognized institution, with at least 55% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply for a PhD in Dental Sciences course.
  • For Indian citizen with Dental degree from foreign Institution or foreign candidates intending to register for PhD in Dentistry shall obtain equivalence from Equivalence committee of MRIIRS. The equivalence committee can further recommend the case to the Vice Chancellor for allowance for pursuing PhD at MRIIRS; however, this allowance is not equitable to a dental degree to practice dentistry in India.
  • During their PhD tenure, foreign scholars will not be allowed to practice Dentistry on patients for their thesis related work in India.
  • Any Scholar for their PhD thesis if conducting any clinical study in their city/ state / country shall have ethical clearance certificate from their respective institution (where they are working) in addition to the clearance certificate from ethical clearance committee of Manav Rachna Dental College, SDS, MRIIRS.
  • Whichever study comes under the purview of ICMR registration for CTRI number shall be obtained before recruiting patients for the study.

  • Ph.D. Programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years for full time scholars and four years for part time scholars, including course work, and a maximum duration of six (6) years from the date of admission to the Ph.D. programme.
  • A maximum of an additional two (2) years can be given through a process of re- registration as per the MRIIRS policy, a Ph.D. programme should not exceed eight (8) years from the date of admission in the Ph.D. programme years. (laid below in Clause 19).
  • Persons with Disabilities (having more than 40% disability) / female Ph.D. scholars may be allowed relaxation of two (2) years recommended by DRC; however, the total period for completion of a Ph.D. programme in such cases should not exceed ten (10) years from the date of admission in the Ph.D. programme.
  • Female Ph.D. Scholars may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave (children up to 18 years of age) for up to 240 days in the entire duration of the Ph.D. programme.
  • The Ph.D. duration will be considered from the applicable last day of admission for the respective admission cycle provided her/his candidature gets subsequently approved by the Academic Council till the submission of the final approved thesis of her/his research work.
  • Both Full time and Part time categories shall meet the eligibility criteria as specified by UGC Regulations 2022. The minimum and maximum duration of the program, coursework requirements, progress review mechanism, and all other academic processes shall apply equally to both categories, with operational flexibility extended to part-time scholars as required.
  • Scholars may request a change of registration status (from full-time to part-time or vice versa) with due justification and requisite approvals within 1 year of enrolment.

  • A 90-minute Entrance Test of 70 Marks will be conducted in the month of July 2026 in the university campus and is mandatory for all candidates
  • The syllabus for the entrance test shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology as Part-A and 50% shall be subject specific as Part-B.
  • 35 MCQs in Part-A and Part-B each and one mark will be awarded for each right answer.
  • The candidates who qualify UGC-JRF/NET/CSIR (JRF)/GATE and M.Phil examination are exempted from the Entrance Test.
  • Students who qualify the Entrance Test and the exempted candidates shall be called for the Personal Interview (30 Marks).
  • Students who have secured 50 % marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview.
  • University may decide the number of eligible students to be called for an interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available
  • Non Resident Indian (NRI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals may be admitted to the program in accordance with the policy guidelines laid down by the Government of India.
  • The provisional admission of candidates shall be made, based on the Central entrance test conducted by NTA/University (wherever applicable) for admission to Ph.D. programs at various institutions approved by UGC, followed by interview with presentation (as per the notification FN 4-1 (UGC-NET Review Committee)/ 2024 (NET/140648) Dated March 27, 2024/7; Chaitra 1946) .

It is further clarified that minimum duration for PhD is 3 years for Full Time Scholars and 4 Years for Part Time Scholars and hence a Research Scholar will be required to pay Research Fee of Rs. 90,000/- per annum for a minimum period of 3/4 years as applicable in two equal installments per year. If a Research Scholar submits his / her Thesis within 15 days from the completion of 3/4 years from the date of registration, he / she shall be required to pay Research Fee only for 3/4 Academic Sessions as applicable.

Note: If a Research Scholar does not submit Thesis within 15 days from the date of completion of 3/4 years from the date of registration, he/ she shall pay Rs. 45,000/- per semester on the above stipulation.

Late Fee Fine Structure

If a Research Scholar fails to deposit fee on or before 31st Jan or 31st July, as the case may be, a fine of:

Shall be charged for 31 days and the name of the Research Scholar shall be struck off if the fee is not paid by March 2nd or Aug 31st as the case may be. In such eventuality, the Vice Chancellor may consider re-admission of the Research Scholar on valid grounds and recommendations of the Dean concerned and the scholar shall be required to pay re-admission fee of Rs 10,000/-

Full-time or Part-time

Ph.D. Scholars may be enrolled either as Full-time or Part-time candidates.A Full-time scholar pursues doctoral studies as their primary academic engagement and is not employed elsewhere. 

  • A Full-time scholar pursues doctoral studies as their primary academic engagement and is not employed elsewhere. 
  • A Part-time scholar is employed and undertakes research alongside professional responsibilities, for which they must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer confirming support for research and provision of adequate time.

Both categories of scholars must meet the eligibility criteria prescribed under UGC Regulations 2022. 

Full Time – Research Fellowship

MRIIRS will award Research Fellowship to its selected Ph.D. Scholars in accordance with the guidelines introduced from time to time pursuant to its Ph.D. Regulations. The Fellowship assistance is intended to motivate full time devoted Research Scholars and will be provided to eligible Ph.D. scholars in the fields of Sciences, Engineering, Computer Applications, Commerce, Management, English, Physiotherapy, Nutrition&Dietetics and Dental Science. 

  • The Selection of candidates for Research Fellowship along with eligibility will be as specified in the Regulation of the University as per policy. [cite: 145]
  • The Research Fellowship shall be coordinated and administered by the Council for Doctoral Program (CDP) of the University in coordination with the Department/School concerned. 
  • The fellowship is granted for up to three years, with annual renewal based on the scholar’s performance and recommendations of the DRC and Supervisor.
  • Number of Research Fellowship shall be approved every year by the Competent Authority of the University that will depend upon its budgetary approvals and will be limited to a number as notified by the University at the beginning of every academic year.
